The Real Jesus

Revelation 19:11-16

From the moment the pre-incarnate word became flesh, man has repeatedly and unrelentingly slandered the name of Jesus through every facet of media made possible. This attack has been made unmistakable throughout history from the many recorded attacks against His name. It is as evident in the Holy Scriptures as it is in modern day life. God’s creation has maligned the name and character of Jesus in text books, radio broadcasts, movies, speeches, TV, cartoons, comics, and even music. Unfortunately, the attacks don’t always come from the opposition. Very often we find that they come from those that worship in his churches every day. From our lack of faith to our lack of consistency in our daily walk, we not only disgrace Him, but mock his very name.

This is why men refuse to pray; refuse to fellowship; refuse to study God’s word, for it is our image of Christ that hinders our ability to put our faith in Christ. Men see him as weak, they see Him as a push-over God who is disconnected from the world He created. However, this is not my Jesus, the real Jesus. Before my Jesus became flesh He created the heavens and the earth. As man, He was strong and a carpenter by trade. My Jesus went head to head with the devil for 40 days and 40 nights. He healed the sick and raised the dead; He walked on water and commanded authority over the winds and the waves. My Jesus challenged the ruling authorities daily, flipped tables in the temple, and beat men for defiling His father’s house. When arrested, my Jesus was beaten so severely that he was not even recognizable yet still picked up His cross and began to carry it to His hill of execution. Once upon Calvary He was nailed to the cross and maintained enough strength to hold a conversation with the men hanging next to Him. When it was time to return to the father, My Jesus told death when he would give up his last breath and death waited patiently. And when my Jesus had given up His spirit the earth shook, the sky was darkened and the curtain leading to the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom. My Jesus was strong and powerful and if how He lived on earth is not testimony enough allow me to share with you the Jesus who waits in heaven:

"I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but He himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (Revelation 19:11-16)."

Nowhere in this passage, or in all of scripture, is my Jesus depicted as being weak and passive. Nowhere do I find that my Jesus was a push-over God, or disconnected from the world He created. On the contrary, my Jesus is a powerful and awesome God who rules the world with truth and justice. He is a warrior waiting patiently for the day that He will return.

Therefore, if you have any doubt that Jesus is man enough to handle your problems, any doubt that Jesus is worthy enough for your audience; big enough for your praise; Lord enough for your prayers; your testimony; your commitment; your tithe; or your fellowship, then you worship the wrong Jesus. Our God is an Awesome God and is big enough and Lord enough to handle all our concerns in every area of our life. This is my Jesus... a powerful Jesus... The Real Jesus! Which Jesus do you follow?
